OVERVIEW

Interior Design is a multi-faceted discipline that focuses on conceptulizing and designing of interior spaces in such a way that they are conducive to high-quality and high productive life. The profession also considers safety and welfare protocol norms laid out by the regulating bodies. The career demands for an artistic bent of mind and good imagination for space planning, construction management and effective use of available materials and products. The job of an interior designer in an ever evolving and changing world is to create spaces which are plush, functional and adaptable in an residential or a workplace to motivate and encourage the user.

The course instills a strong foundation of interdisciplinary skills with an emphasis on the latest materials available, construction techniques, accessory design and a variety of workshops like photography, textile design, furniture manufacturing, metal works, etc,.

Course Structure

The Curriculum is designed for a full-time 4 year course which is divided into 8 semesters. The first 6 semesters are devoted entirely towards study of basics of drawing and principles of interior design while the 7th semester the students have to submit a dissertation along with a project report. The 8th semester includes a full-time internship for a 20 week period in an interior designer’s office.

Job Opportunities

The degree of B.Des (Interior Design) gives the students a variety of job opportunities. Those who would like to get into the profession can start working in any creative field.

This degree equips the students to start their own individual consultancy practice for Interior Design. Other jobs include,

Further Studies

The degree of B.Des. gives plenty of opportunities for students to pursue post-graduate studies at IIT, IISC, Manipal University and many more for M.Des. Programme. Many Universities in USA, UK, Australia, Italy etc,. are offering masters programme for specialization in the field of furniture design, lighting design, acoustic design , textile design, industrial design and other where our students are eligible to apply.
