OVERVIEW

Architecture is primarily concerned with the design of buildings. Students of architecture address the complex problems of designing – to house human activity, issues of climate and energy, technology and structure, combining the needs of internal and external environment.

Architecture education is a methodological training in analysis, understanding and problem solving. It qualifies graduates to pursue a career in architecture along with other areas of the construction and design.

Course Structure

The School of Planning and Architecture offers full-time 5 years (10 Semesters including 6 months of practical training) degree programme with the curriculum designed on the idea of learning through hands on experience. Throughout the course students work on design projects, usually related to practical conditions on live sites. Students progress is monitored through a combination of continuous assessment in design studios, written examinations, group discussion reviews, and juries for each field of study.

The program includes relevant courses dealing with concepts, design development , professional practice, as well as electives in an area of student’s interest. The course work is structured to help the student understand intricate aspects of architecture which are very much integral to designing, planning and construction of buildings. It aims to impart quality education through effective communication skills, making the students conscious of built form in the contemporary ever changing scenario.

In an independent practice an architect is expected to understand specific requirements of clients and strike the right balance between aesthetics and practicality.
